Gabriela Alboiu
Professor, Linguistics

“Linguistics is the scientific study of natural language organization. Our program offers a strong foundation in core areas, such as phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax, while also exposing students to areas such as sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and language acquisition. Since all our courses use theoretical analyses to make sense of the systematic nature of cross-linguistic data, most of what we do involves abstract problem solving and aids in developing skills in logical argumentation and critical thinking. All of this provides invaluable background for any career and specific linguistics background for studies in related areas such as Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, Communication Sciences, Education, Translation and Interpretation, Computational Linguistics, and Library Sciences.”
