Explore the language, culture and society of the German-speaking world. You will have the opportunity to study abroad with Canada’s best range of exchange programs.
Encompassing subjects ranging from language, literature and film studies to intellectual and cultural history, urban studies, political science, memory studies, art history, and women’s studies, our program is designed to cater to York’s diverse population. Language courses enable students to achieve proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, writing and culture. Through the close study of a wide range of texts and artefacts, students explore historical events and the way they are remembered in contemporary society; the cross-cultural relationships between the German-speaking countries and other parts of the globe; and the contributions of writers, filmmakers, philosophers, scientists, artists and intellectuals who have shaped modern society. Students can choose from a variety of degree options, with varying levels of language requirements, or select individual courses to enhance their general education.
